  • Jagiellonia - Lechia 2:1

    13.03.2014 15:57 -A +A

Lechia Gdańsk lost in Białystok against Jagiellonia 1:2 in Polish Cup quarterfinal first leg. Patryk Tuszyński scored from the spot for The White and Greens. Return leg will be played March 25th at PGE Arena in Gdansk.

- We have to regret very simple defensive errors. We conceded two goals way too easily. Apart from that I think we played not too bad at all. We had more shots on target then the home side – said Michał Probierz, Lechia’s manager after the game.

Probierz surprised everyone by playing Zaur Sadajew from the start. The Chechen player was very active, was often finding his partners although couldn’t convert his goal scoring chances. However it must be said that after one of many crosses into the penalty box he was clearly fouled by Ugochuwku Ukah. The referee did not react though. Best chance for Lechia was wasted by Marcin Pietrowski who headed in Maciej Makuszewski’s cross, but Krzysztof Baran somehow saved.

Jagiellonia was more effective in front of goal. First Ukah headed in after a corner and just minutes after that Bekim Balaj was quicker than the defense and doubled the lead. Mateusz Bąk was close to saving each of those shots but he lacked luck. Lechia pushed hard for a vital away goal. However Makuszewski, Pietrowski and Sadajew could not find a way into the net.

After the break Lechia played much better. The team was led by Piotr Wiśniewski and Stojan Vranjes, with some help from Deleu, had most of the play. It was Wiśniewski who dribbled past Adam Waszkiewicz near the line, the defender had no choice but to bring him down. Penalty! It was easily converted by Patryk Tuszyński, who scored his sixth goal of the year.

The White and Greens did not give up. They were pushing hard for an equalizer, best chance fell to Rafał Janicki who headed the ball into the crossbar after a corner.
